proofreading fees

explaining quotes, fees and payment

How will you calculate the fee for proofreading my work?

All projects are unique, and each one requires a slightly different approach and degree of attention. My fee quotes are therefore structured around hours of work, rather than the number of words, to reflect this.

Clients and their circumstances are unique, too, so a fixed fee may be applicable for some.

And if I can help you manage an awkward deadline, I will; and my quote will reflect this too.

So, if you are interested in working with me, I will create a quote for services that incorporates:

·       an estimation of the number of hours I will spend working on your project

·       when you need the work completed

·       whether you are a student

As a broad indicator, my basic fee per hour for proofreading is £30, which is based on guidance from the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, and I charge in whole hours. If, while working on your text, it becomes clear that my estimation of the work required was wrong (in either direction), I will let you know, so that we can agree on what to do next.

I do not charge VAT.

How do I get a quote from you?

For a free and no-obligation quote, please either use the enquiry form or email me at tania@proofpolitic.com and send me as much of the following information as you can:

·       A description of the project you are working on

·       The total number of words that will need to be proofread

·       The date by which the proofreading needs to be completed and returned to you

·       The format in which you would like the work done and returned to you; for example, MS Word

·       Details of any needs, practices, or constraints that I should accommodate as we work together

·       If you can, a two- or three-page sample of your work, preferably from its middle section

Do, please, also take the opportunity to ask me anything you need to, especially if the information in these pages hasn’t given you what you need. And if you would like to discuss the matter in more detail; for example, if you would like my work delivered to you in stages, just let me know. I am happy to talk by phone, videocall, or in person, depending on the distances involved.

I will aim to get back to you within two working days with a quote.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Payment terms

I accept payment by BACS.

I will require advance payment for large or urgent projects, but normal payment terms are 30 days from the date of invoicing.

Please get in touch so we can get the conversation started.
